Original Item: By early to mid 1944, the majority of U.S. tankers were wearing the Polaroid All Purpose Goggle No. 1021. Photos of 752nd tankers specifically show the 1021 model as the standard tanker goggle through the end of the war. The Polaroid 1021 goggle was developed mainly for use by the Army Air Corps, but it found widespread use in all Army branches. The 1021 all-purpose goggle kit featured a comfortable light-weight foam and rubber frame, held in place by a thin elasticized strap. In addition to improved comfort over the earlier M-1938 goggles, the Polaroid 1021 featured a single one-piece lens for better visibility, and four different removable lenses were available for better visibility under a variety of conditions. A non-polarizing clear lens was available for protection against dirt and grime under normal conditions where no glare was present. A light green lens was available for glare protection on normal days, and a dark green polarizing lens was available for glare protection on "exceedingly brilliant" days. Finally, a red non-polarizing "dark adaptor" lens was available for adapting the eyes to night vision.

IMA has found a very small quantity of these goggles that appear to be unissued. However, they are very fragile. We include the case, nicely marked POLAROID ALL-PURPOSE GOOGLE, the rubber frame, elastic band and one lens (our choice of tint). Any additional lens may be broken or cracked but you will get at least one complete lens. Due to the nature of these goggle, please be aware that we recommend them as a curio only- not for wearing.

They are fragile and can easily break. We inspect each one before shipment, so if you break a lens when handling, we will not replace it. The goggle photographed here was treated with an oil based restoration solution that greatly added in returning both the celluloid lens and rubber frame to a more pliable condition, making perfect for a static display.

funny!
Format: Hardcover
See the "candy wrapper rustler", the "hymn hummer" and all the others you remember )or still know, from church. See Homer's water-slide-to-the-baptismal-pool, and more. Fun to give as a gift.

If you're a fan of the Simpsons' neighbor, this will certainly tickle your funnybone. Good old left-handed Ned tells and shows all, God bless him.

Anne Carson is a Genius
Format: Hardcover
There is no one writing right now -- in essays, novels, poems or short stories -- who is as consistently brilliant as Anne Carson. Her last book, AUTOBIOGRAPHY OF RED contained some of the finest, most exquisite writing I've ever read; and this next collection is a masterpiece. There is a long essay in the book titled IRONY IS NOT ENOUGH: My Life As Catherine Deneuve that is at once moving, sexy and intelligent. There are also a sequence of poems about Hoppers paintings, paired with St. Augustine's Confessions that show perfectly how Carson dances on the fault lines of the modern and the ancient. This woman will win a Nobel Prize.

Interesting juxtapositions - some successes, some failures
Format: Paperback
As is to be expected from Anne Carson, the breadth of her knowledge results in thought-provoking writing even when it fails as "poetry". An example Hopper:Confessions begins with a quotation from Edward Hopper, followed with 9 separately title poems accompanied by quotations from Augustine's Confessions, and ending with a piece by Hopper. Her essay on female pollution in antiquity is excellent scholarship made enjoyable reading for the "common reading". Several pieces, or portions of pieces, consider Lazarus raising interesting issues from the perspective of Lazarus ... what is his reaction at being called forth (rotting?) from the grave? While many of the pieces, especially the very short pieces, are not impressive, the book is worth your time - for the reflections it provokes in the reader.
